First of all, you need to obtain service tax number only if you are providing services and your Receipt exceeds Rs. 900,000.

If you are in the business of trading i.e. purchase and sale of product, you better obtain VAT number once your turn over (either purchase or sale) exceeds the basic limit of your state. e.g. in Gujarat We have a limit of Rs. 500000. So you have to obtain VAT number once either your purchase or sales exceeds Rs. 500000.

can you please gide me for how to do entry.  we have issue WALL PAINTING AND PATCH WORK services to our client of Rs. 10000 (without Services tax)  how to do entry for the same ?
