Hi everybody,

We have registered under Service Tax and the business since last few years is almost NIL, but as per the requirement, I am filing the Half Yearly NIL returns regularly. Could any body can advise me that, is there any way to avoid this paper work till we re-start our business.

You may surrender your registration certificate and on the commencement of business you should re- apply

Filing of Half yearly returns is mandatory under service tax irrespective of whether they are nil returns. The only way out is to surrender the certificate of registration and take a fresh registration once the business restarts. Once u surrender the registration, you will be free from the paper work.
