Service tax on rent on residential property

Sir

Please guide me, is service tax applicable on rent paid on residential premises for residence purpose???

we have a rent a flat for our staff and now the flat owner is asking us to pay service tax, 

if service tax is not applicable kindly give me notification so that i can show to the flat owner and resolve the issue

please help me
