Service tax on devep. & supply of content services

Whether service tax is applicable or not for the company deals in selling of space or time slots in their own website for News/entetainment/movies channles.  That is.   we display our clients product advertisements on our website and we charge for the same. Not sure whether service tax is applicable or not while billing to customers.

Dear Ramnath,

Clause (g) of Section 66D of the Finance Act, 1994 (as amended by the Finance Act, 2012) (the "Negative List") specifically explains the following:

1) Selling of space or time slots for advertisement will not be liable to service tax and;

2) Exception: only advertisements broadcasted by radio or television will be liable to service tax.

Therefore, sale of space for advertisements on the Company's website will not be liable to service tax.
