One of my friend has done his MBA from Weign and Leigh College who have charged Service tax from him. Are they eligible for charging service tax as per the act. if no can he claim it back from them?

There will be no levy of Service tax on Schools & Colleges. There is a category called 'Commercial Coaching & Training service' in service tax. In this category, coaching instituions like private coaching center, computer centres like Jetking, NIIT, spoken english are covered. But, for schools & colleges, there will no levy.
So, please see the bill / receipt given by the college and check on what service, service tax is charged? Also enquire college for on whcih category they were registered?
