where mr x is not liable to pay service tax but he pays service tax for the liability of mr. Y. however he collects the amount from mr Y.afterwards department serves a demand notice of service tax on mr y.what should mr. X and mr. Y do?

You say x has paid service tax for y, if x has paid service tax stating the Service tax registration number of y then it means y has paid his tax by borrowing funds from x

if x has not stated y's registration number in the return forms, y has to pay his service tax liability with interest

What happens to the tax paid by X? Where is that accounted? X should have initmated some particular accounting head to deposit that tax, isnt it?
This is a vague question. No clarity and no substance without any solid info. Please refer or carryon the series.
