SELECTION OF BEST STRATEGY FOR CA STUDENTS

On the basis of MCQs CPT program has been designed and marks are not provided subject wise in the mark sheet. 

Hence students are not aware where they lack. 

It might be possible that a student scores only 30% marks in accountancy and still passes CPT. 

Such students may face tremendous difficulties in CA later on. 

Many students don't focus on mathematics and unfortunately mathematics can not be covered by most of the coaching classes.

Those who claim to be best in CA coaching are also lacking to provide good coaching in Maths. Right ?

The explanatory part of the subjects  is not checked here in CPT. MCQ are designed to check concept part of the students.  The ICAI deems that explanatory part checked till std. XII by the Board of Secondary Education level is sufficient and it relies thereon. 

The moment CPT is passed by the students; all become happy. Most happy persons are parents of the students.  

But for students; real test begins now.  The common problem of the students is the selection of preference out of College, Coaching, Training or Studies. More they think; more they get confused.

All the  advice of most of the parents fail here who thought their children should do CA. Specially puzzled are mothers. They can't imagine which types of course is this. The innocent faces of their children look puzzled all the time.

OUT OF FOUR :

WHICH SHOULD BE SELECTED : GRADUATION, COACHING, TRAINING OR  SELF STUDIES FOR CA ?

1. Some students decide to do graduation first because immediately after three months; they realize that at least graduation should be completed.

2. Some students decide to do coaching properly and appear for examinations. Here they lack to develop their own conceptual part the result of which is seen when many of them can't pass CA Final for years. 

3. When students pass PCC; then most of them relax. They don't touch the books for more than one year ! They just join coaching and enjoy with friends (an inbuilt facility of coaching classe).   This behaviour is also found in  those students who scored Ranks in schooling. Why ? When they join CA; they find that passing in CA is enough !!

u are correct sir....at least ICAI should show in our results how many marks are scored in individual subjects.....

it might sound funny but i gotta tell u people something...........

when i was appearing for my cpt exam i had a student sitting near me with a coin....he answerd all the questions just by tossing the coin twice nd on the basis of heads nd tail he attempted each nd every question......nd guess what he cleared the exam with 120 marks...thats a true story nd trust me that guy had no knowledge of anything about the subject at all..............just a matter of luck........just wonder what must be happening to him to ipcc......

Students who wish to join CA; should get mastery over Mathematics than Accountancy !  

Students who come in CA from science stream; pass earlier than those who come from Commerce Stream !

The reason is science students have habit of regular studies and good in maths which is not found in commerce students generally. Right ?

Why Mathematics first than Accountancy ? 

Mathematics seek full concentration to solve questions. Those who lack in concentration would not be able to qualify CA easily. 

CA Final Students should see the provisions of AS - 15.

Without help of good mathematics and expertise in computer application; he would not be able to judge whether the Provision for Retirement  Benefits have been made correctly. 

Further it is proved that why knowledge about Computer Application at advanced level is required in CA. 

How to get mastery over Mathematics is a big question ! 

From my practical experience; I have found that the should who think the subject is tough; should buy full set of Macmillan from Std. VI to Std. XII ( If still one feels difficulty then buy Maths book from standard III even).  

Why such suggestion should be accepted ?  

The answer is : 

A subject becomes typical when base is not clear and sound. 

Whether Accountancy is a tough subject or an interesting one ? 

Those who don't focus full attention on first 3 chapters of Accountancy in initial classes at Std. X; find difficulty in Accountancy for whole of the year !

Agreed  or not?

Similarly; when one is not sound in Maths; should start Maths from that  stage where he is lacking. When started with lower level; he would be able to solve sums easily and will find it interesting. The confidence in the subject would be developed. Here coaching would be very helpful and within 6 months he would have sufficient knowledge about maths.

The following are applicable when a student takes decision about his career as CA : 

1. Mental Decision  :  

When a student scores high marks in Std. XII Commerce Stream; all the relatives and friends tell him to go for CA. Without knowing much about what is CA qualification; he takes dreams of becoming a CA.  Hence he mentally prepares himself to be a CA.

2. Physical Decision : 

This type of student does hard labour to qualify for CA. Firstly he decides to do CA without knowing full about CA (Mental Decision). When practically he enrolls and sees the quantity and quality of syllabus then realizes that without doing hard labour;  there is no way to get  success in CA. 

3. Emotional Decision : 

Even after being declared unsuccessful for so many times; students cannot leave CA due to emotions attached with the course. The simple rule of "attachment" with one applies here when one lives with one for so many years.  Despite having good opportunities; the student cannot accept life without passing CA. 

4. Spiritual Decision :

After being unsuccessful for so many times; at one stage he decides to get it by all means. Here he devotes all his time for this course and ultimately get success. 

The purpose of the writing here is to make best strategy due to  many challenges before the students.

The major wrong decisions taken by CA students are as under :  

1. Not to touch the books till examinations come near. This  tendency is found in most of commerce students.

(A total revolution is required to change the mentality of commerce students. If properly read all the subjects in B.Com; I am sure it is sufficient for making a good career. The only thing is required to have some vocational training in the area of interest for 2  years which could be easily undertaken as part time job while doing B.Com).  

2. To appear in the examination as soon as it becomes due.

Many students appear in the examinations because these become due to appear. And they immediately  get bitter taste of failure.

Once a student fails in any CA exams; he immediately loses his confidence in the studies. Hence it is my humble request to CA students and their peers to advise them not to appear in the examinations till they don't have confidence to appear in the examinations. 

( How many students will follow it; is a big question).  

3. Dependence on Coaching Classes :

Many students attend tuition classes till Std. XII. Accordingly; they join CA Coaching classes. The first stage of joining such classes is CPT which is almost based on Std. XII syllabus. This is one of the reason that the students  who are conceptually clear;  pass CPT easily. The moment he passes CPT; he gets confidence on the coaching class where he studied despite the fact that 70% of other students fail from the same coaching class.  Here student thinks other students are  wrong and I am fine. 

Then the turn of IPCC comes. The major mistake is committed here. Students treat the coaching class as tuition class. Unfortunately, most of the so-called coaching classes are also run on the same pattern. They focus on completion of syllabus rather than to give concepts about the subjects.  

It is my humble advice to the students to go for coaching only to that extent where they can't start ( don't know where to kick or click* ) a subject.

For example - Indirect Tax - the subject which is not heard by the students so far. 

I wish to give some concepts about this subject : 

Read carefully first two chapters of the book to have primary knowledge. Try to understand why excise duties are levied ? Why VAT is  levied and why Service Tax is levied ? Just think and discuss with friends. It may be possible that you may not understand in a proper manner but you will develop curiosity about the subject.

Here I am not asking to think about that these are levied according to the Acts enacted.

After developing a curiosity over the subject; now you can refer just headings of different topics to know something more about the subject.  In this way; you can develop your self learning which is a must to increase you analytical power necessary for success in CA exams. 

So the students should take Coaching in a real sense in those areas where they have doubts rather than to take them as course completion centres.

Join only those coaching classes; where the faculty has practical knowledge about the subject. By this way; not only concepts would be clear but the subject would become easy to understand and more interesting.  

Moreover; the students would be able to understand how a career can be made through the subject.

4. Lacking in own explanations on the Topics covered in the subject  :

Most of the subjects use book language because they experienced in the past examinations (before CA)  that whatever is written in the book is the best. Whereas the expectation from the students in professional examinations is that they should be able to explain in their own language. Many students read too much but unfortunately very few students try to write it immediately in the form of short notes. You can retain the heading part as it is in the book; but the explanations part should be developed on the matter. 

Here care should be taken at the time of first reading. Students may feel that each and every thing is important. If this is so; read the whole topic again - immediately. It will hardly take half an hour. Still if it is not working and takes more time; go for another reading.

That topic covered might be very relevant and  basic to the subject's study. Particularly this problem is faced when subject is altogether new or in very advanced stage. For example the subject : MAFA in Final.

Here students should not go forward till  they are very clear and confident what they have read. 

Better cover all the glossary of the subject if the subject is totally new. There are so many books available in the market which define financial terms in a very easy manner.

Also keep in mind an important  point :

In professional examinations; a tough subject always gives a bright career. Many students confuse themselves to take another qualification in Finance whereas they can easily get the desired exposure by scoring 80 plus marks in MAFA in CA Final ! Just read more books on the subject and practice more. When you will face interview of the prospective employers they would not dare to ask why not other qualification in Finance. If they ask - Immediately show them your marks in MAFA and draw their attention  with the help of your index finger.  

One more thing; if you get mastery over the subject; write some articles on the subject and forward them to various magazines. These you  you can show to your prospective employer. By showing 2-3 articles; you becomes an expert and treated like an author.  

This type of writing is easily possible when you develop your analytical skills at the time of reading.

Some more tips -  

While reading practical subjects; you may find some steps are not explained in the book. Specially this situation can be found in CA modules. Now by writing 2-3 pages article on the matter; you will not only clear your own doubts but would become a writer soon. It would give you a great confidence. 

An Extraordinary  Point : Beaware !

If a student finds that he can't understand the missing steps; then surely he has to recheck the theory part of the practical subject and ensure himself that nothing is missed out which is very important.

These missing steps are intentionally not covered  in the CA modules to develop the analytical skills of the students.

5. Lacking concentration in CA 

Immediately after joining CA; some students join CS and  ICWA. Why ? Because most of the subjects are same. These courses are taken in addition to B.Com !  Ask them which course is the most important for career ? They would certainly say - CA. Then why to join other courses ? Because after some time; they realizes this CA is not my cup of tea. 

When such funny decisions are taken all becomes mess and students get more consumed how to pass each and every course.

At one point of time; students require concentration on each and every subject but now they take decisions to take further courses without ensuring success in CA. I couldn't understand how they take silly decisions for their own career without completing CA which they chose with great thrill ?  

Such type of decisions are never found in any other students.  Those who change; most of them prolong their career to start.

Why such decisions are taken ? 

Due to lack of  proper strategy for CA course.

Ask a Gold Medalist in CA whether other courses are required in addition to CA to make a bright career.
