Schedule VI-A 80d medical expenditure for super-senior parents - proof

In Section VI-A, 80D (B), which is "Medical Expenditure", there's a max deduction of 30000 for "Parents (super senior citizen)". I don't know if this was present last year, but this is the first time I noticed it and I think I can avail it since my mother is 81 years old and qualifies as a super senior citizen.

Including all the doctor visits, medicines, etc, the annual expenses for my mom would be above 30000, and almost all of these have been paid using credit card. However, since I wasn't aware of this deduction, I wasn't diligent in keeping all the receipts. I am wondering what kind of proofs are needed if I get audited, and whether I should try to get this deduction given that I don't have all the receipts.

All the invoices of doctors/hospital/diagnosis centers along with medicine purchased bills, clarifying patient's name.....

Thanks Rambhia Sir for the update.

Please clarify :

1. What is the section number for claiming 'Medical Expenditure - Very Senior Citizen (Age>=80 years)'

Can we claim the medical expenses of  super senior parent, if they are covered under insurance, but the expenses incurred are not paid by the insurer (out of pocket/denied).

What are the proofs required to claim the same.

What is the limit for claiming such medical expenditure of super senier parent.

Can we claim this in ITR if not reflecting in Form-16

2. Is Section 80DDB different,  where we can claim expenses for diseses listed in rule 11DD only.

Mr Rambhia Sir, My mother is 89, and not covered by Medical Insurance. Her medical Prescripttion, bills etc would be around 50000 p.a. She files ITR under 10% bracket. I file ITR under 30% bracket. My question is for super senior citizen, she can claim medical expenses deduction up to 50000 p a. ( Being not medically insured ), or can I claim the same as she is my mother. The question being if I get 50000 deduction then save 20% tax ( 30 less 10 ). Expenses are made by me. Your reply will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Nikhil Gujar

Yes, you can claim her medical expenses upto 50K, provided paid by you through any banking channel.

Normal medicines (against doctor prescripttions) are purchased by cash payments not debit n credit card or cheque.
