Is it necessary to inform Sales Tax Officer about the cancelled invoice? The assessee is a trading concern

I think not necessary. But for certain states, there is an option to mention cancelled sales in the VAT return. If similar provision is applicable for your state, then you might have to declare in the return otherwise maintain all copies of invoice (which is cancelled) in your records.
