Revised ITR if e-verification done late for original ITR

Hi all,

I filed my father's return on 07/07/2023 (before due date) and opted for new tax regime. E-Verification was done after 1 month on 16 august 2023 because of that tax filing date changed from 7th july to 16 august by IT department. Now I am trying to file revised return to opt for old tax regime. But IT portal is not accepting acknowledgement number of original return as date has been changed. So my query is how to file revised return if e-verification is not done within time for original return. Has anyone faced this issue?

If not verified a return as per due date then its falling under invalid.
So, File next return as Original (New) return

Thanks for responding. As per law it should be invalid but CPC did the processing of this return and sent a demand of 30.000/- . Now when I am trying to file original new return then it is saying that you cannot file it as you have already submitted and I am also not able to revise it because it says that acknowledgement no. is not correct. Now when e-verificaiton is done late they are not making the return invalid. They are levying 5000/- penalty as they are considering the e-verification date as date of filing.

I donot want to pay this demand because I am entitled to file revised return by law till dec 31st,2023. Please guide. Thanks
