My friend recieve income tax notice for non filing of return,he intentionally didnt file return and his income is above taxable limit and later he recieve notice from Dept for reason for non filing of return.,.now my question is what reason shud i mention in return so that AO thinks its just a bonafide mistake??

therez nothing you can do... just file belated return.. pay tax together with interest & penalty..
an reason can be lack of awareness of filing return (but this work only if your friend did not file any previous returns)

I believe that your friend took this matter so lightly without even caring to know its consequences.
Here you have mentioned that your friend has been served with two notices. I would suggest you to check the section under which the second notive has been served.
Moreover start preparing your Income Tax returns and keep Books of accounts ready as this matter wont end by just filing return and paying tax including Intetest and Penalty.
Just pray that you dnt get a notice u/s 144 for best judgement assessment.
