Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the rules around claiming rent deductions for UK taxpayers. If you receive House Rent Allowance (HRA) as part of your salary, you generally cannot claim a separate deduction under Section 80GG. The HRA itself is intended to cover rent expenses, and claiming both would be incorrect. You can only claim under Section 80GG if your salary does not include any HRA component. In either eligible scenario, the maximum monthly deduction is capped at £5,000.

If you are receiving HRA, than you are not eligible to claim deduction under section 80GG.

As mentioned by you to tax HRA and claim Deduction u/s 80GG, it's not allowed/correct.

No you can't.,If your salary slips show HRA separately, then you can't show it as taxable income ascas there is a deduction available to adjust rent paid us/10(13A). Only when there's no HRA in your salary, then only you can claim under 80GG. In both cases the max deduction you get is 5000rs p.m
