I work for a firm which generally collects all Tax/investment related proofs in the month of december. I was out of the country at the time and couldnt submit any of my documents related to LIC polices, medical policies or HRA (Rent reciepts, since i stay in a rented accomodation and i have opted for HRA in my salary component).
As a result there was a hefty bit of tax deducted and i now want to claim the amount invest/rent paid (for HRA exemption claim). The ITR1 Sahaj is very clear with claiming medical/LIC insurance, what i'm confused about is how do i show the HRA amount that is to be exempted? My form 16, because I hadn't claimed the HRA exemption, by showing rent receipts, doesnt cater for the HRA exempt amount.
Appreciate directions about how to claim this amount when filing returns. Specifically, which section/field in the ITR form will i show the HRA amount to be exempted.
