for claiming refund is prevalidation.is mandatory.

yes you need to pre validate your bank details for refund

dept has stopped giving physical cheque to assesses for claiming refund and instead gas started transferring the refund amount by direct credit to bank account for payment of refund to assessy.
for this purpose before uploading the XML to the income tax website assesses are required to validate their correct and active bank account to the dept for the purposes of smooth and instant credit of refund directly to assesses bank account. however you can change your bank account next year if it is closed or remains inactive

Last 3 years (FY 2015-16 /FY2016-17/FY2017-18) I filed ITR1 online ,downloaded ITR-5 and mailed to CPC Bangalore by Speedpost & got refund in 21 days to my mentioned Bank account (same for last 3 years +other SB accounts mentioned too ) . This year FY2018-19 also I plan to file my ITR-1 on July 21st & mail ITR-V to CPC (not verifying thro online banking /aaadhar otp even though i have online banking & aaadhar OTP).(accounts are linked with aadhar/PAN etc)

Should I have to verify bank account online this year or continue the same procedure as last 3 years which worked like clock work ? {need to get around 20k refund from TDS deducted already . only income is FD interest .no discount claims other than 10k sb interest under 80TTA . no 80C deductions claimed )

If you are sending the signed hardcopy of ITR-V then no need to verify bank account, you will get your refund.

But you should verify it for faster processing of the refund process.

Thanks . Added Bank of India ,but prevalidation is still pending for 4-5 weeks(received IT refund in the same BOI account for last 3 years )

so added Indian bank also. both in profile shows "under process " only .

Anyway planning to file IT return as usual by July 10 & print ITR-V and speedpost to CPC Bangalore same day . Hopefully I get refund as usual in 6 weeks

even though bank pre validation was showing only "submitted ", but while filing ITR-1 online my bank accounts were showing (1st & 2nd choice) for receiving refund.

Filed ITR-1 on July10 & spedposted ITR-V to cpc and got sms acknowledgement confirmation on July12 that ITR-V was received .Unlike previous years where my refund was 10000 and below which I got promptly in 5 weeks , this time refund is 35k. no refund yet. I think the IT dept refunds smaller refunds faster (to show % refunds vs total filing ) and anything above 25k-50k may be delayed. one more issue. last few years , i always received email (not sms) acknowledgement from CPC with ITR-1 full version attachment (after 10-12 days after CPC received ny speedposted ITR-V ) This time no email only sms acknowledgement of receipt .Online Filing status showing filed & verified. Now I have resigned myself to a long wait.
