i got a total outstanding demand of rs 16000 in 4 asseessment years 2007-08,2009-10.2010-11,2012-13 . i paid challan under regular assessment of rs 16000 but in the challan wrongly mentioned ay 2015-16.due to which my outstanding demand is still showing in the site. i had a refund of rs 1097 in ay 2017-18 but it got adjusted against this demand of rs 16000,which i have already paid.plz tell what to do to either get refund of rs 16000 or adjust my outstanding demand.

Write a letter to your Jurisdictional ITO with a copy of the payment made....... to adjust the payment against outstanding demand of earlier years........
If possible convey the message personally, to speed up the matter......

Go To Income Tax Officer tell him
I was paid Tax But Deposited in Wrong A.Y.
He Correct the A.Y.
can i file rectification request for ay 15-16?
no you should file rectification for the impugned a.ys for which payment has been made
but those assesment years , manual return was filed so rectification may not be possible for those A.Ys
manual or e-filing is immaterial for rectification but still, the time limit for filing rectification application is time barred. just send a request application with a copy of tax paid challan and request to change a.y. in challan. that's enough
