You re looking at your family members who ranked, and just want to cross those ranks? just want to show that you can also do. If so I will say that you can't do it.

There is no short cut but hard work - this will also look like orthodox gyan right na??

You can do it only when you forget about your family member's ranks and also your ambition to cross that rank. What is required is just planning -whatever is course should be understood well, you should have perfect answer to any question. means dont read just digest the subjects. Plan to complete papers in good time.

Another gyan After all what you are asking for is a "Siddhi" which requires "Sadhna" only. start digesting the words.

I too went through a similar stage as yours, although I had got a rank in PE-I(28th).
In the first 5-6 months of PE-II, I was not so determined, But I was really charged up to go for the best in the last 3-4 months. I secured 9th rank in PE-II in May 2005 exam. You have 5 months which is sufficient enough to change the entire proceedings. I would suggest you to pay minimum attention to bcom(just try to keep around 70 %, which is not a diff. task).
As far as the preparation goes, regular tests were conducted in my classes, so I had no problems in Theory subjects(law, audit. itech) For the other subjects, apart from the classes , I used to keep 1 week for each subject for thorough preparation.(i.e. after completion of course in classes).

hi ritika.........first of all congratulations on ur decision for opting the prestigious and challegning career like CA. I have nothing special to say..............just believe in yourself and take life as it comes. I just say tht generally one strasses on accounting, costing and income tax to secure good marks. On the other hand he took easily all the other subjects. As i think each subject plays a vital role if institute changes the question paper out of leak.

U should try to attempt to cover practical questions from auditing (Question No. 1 and 2) and one can get 27 marks out of them.

Secondly, u should strasses on CST more than income tax act as it will help u to secure good marks in income tax.

Thirdly, get the more information u can have for the distinguish type question in Information technology and have a good practice of flow chart. It will cover almost 30 marks.

Then if one follow the above things, he can get around 70 to 75 marks out of less efforts than going by detailed study.

Fourthly, check ur self, examine the latest trend of question paper and find out the way which will be more better to cover maximum marks in minimum time and minimum efforts.

and finally, as it seems to me better to say, one should do tht one like.

In CA what you requires is the plan and understanding of the level of paper.
As i am not a rank holder i cannot advice you something big, i can just say that it will be much better if you talk to your brother first .
Now, my advice would be to be practical, everything can be achieved , you just follow your plans .
In PE-11, study daily---- Tax,Law,Audit,IT--Give 2 hrs to each of the subject.
Study Alternate days----Accs, Costing and FM
Sunday:Make short notes on what you have done of each subject in the whole week.

Make your habit to read Bare act in law, give 20 minutes additionally to Bare act.
Keep a diary to note all the latest case laws in direct tax.
Study the Institute Magazine very thoroughly.

Last advice is to Make a plan,follow it and keep your mind cool , give time to other things like yoga,Dance, or other thing to increase your activeness.
Keep the level of 70 % + in Bcom.

Take coaching in Accounts and costing ,FM and try all the questions yourself before going to the Coaching Class.

Don't look for advices,understand your potential and be your own boss,never change your plans.

by going through your mail it seems taht u want to pretend your self dont pass dialogues there is no definite way of scoring merit.

you say that only 5 maonths left but why 5 months. have wasted your rest time.

If you wan2 score single digit merit dont ask how to get it.

Hi Ritika,

5 months is enough to get a single digit rank, give 10hrs a day for your studies, start your day with some exercise, stretching, low impact exercises, skipping, just 30mins total, it relives tension (kind of tension that you have right now).

When you start you study, just revise the subjects you did day before, juggle through subjects, means study Law then Accounts then Tax, I mean any combination of practical and theory subjects, it keeps your brain active, take short breaks in between, just when you are about to finish your day with your study, try to recall what you have learned, dont panic if you cant recall everything, now is the time to revise what you learned for the day. Remember the saying when we were kids, "All work and no play makes jack a dull boy" (sorry there is nothing in the lines, for gals)

Law 1:
Keep big goals, split them into small goals, is the way to go (atleast in programming).

Law 2:
Allot time to subjects as required, I think you need to see which subjects you would require to give more or less time.

Law 3:
Dont break the above two laws.

Yeah you got your game plan, follow the above 3 laws. mind you those are not guidelines :) "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride". I even have a secret receipe for success, but then I will have to kill you, if I reveal it to you.

i think i can suggest u something regardin the preparations for ur may 06 exams...now wat i m gonna suggest u is totally examination oriented which is what u want...to score a rank, rite?

lets first start with accounts....prepare the practical problems from the past papers...as there's generally a trend to ask the sums from past papers...so it will help u a lot to score good marks in accounts...secondly do the accounting standards thouroughly and also the practicals of AS...but dont give equal time to each and every accounting standard...give more time to the important ones...and less time to the usual ones...coz wats judged in CA exams is concepts as u must b well aware of tat.

now we move to audit...do prepare the chapters startin from company audit very thoroughly till the special audit...coz since last few attempts they have started askin too many cases...these chapters will help u solve the cases easily and they are also very interesting...so dnt ignore the cases...coz they are being given a good amount of impotance in the papers now as they judge how far u've got the concept and how do u apply the same.

regarding law i can tell u that its ok if u dnt prepare it section wise...coz u must b well aware that if u write wrong section number ur marks are cut...but if u dnt write its ok...i mean there are no additional markings for sections...here cases are of most importance coz since last 2 attempts also in this paper they have increased the weightage of cases upto almost 50 marks....so prepare law conceptualy and dnt mug it up...even if u write 4 lines in a paper...but if all the points are included...u will get full marks...

now in costing and fm do as many sums as possible...and dnt also ignore doin cash flow and fund flow in fm...coz they ask...and dnt ignore the theory...theory's weightage is almost 45 to 60 marks in both cost and fm...so do theory first and then do the practicals problems and the recent examination probs

in tax first prepare CST coz its very easy and very interesting too...so ur 25 marks will b secured...now in income tax also...if u dnt remember sections its ok...its the same rule as in law...if u go wrong marks are cut...and for right section no additional marks....another thing in I.Tax is prepare the amendments very thoroughly...like the capital gains on EQ shares...STCG...the rebates and deductions...also do the probs of individual assesments as they now ask such full length probs to find upto the tax liability of the assessee and all tat...and in paper show all the workings very properly...another thing that i have noticed since last two attempts is they have included the multiple choices questions...so its kinda easy to attempt them...but u need to b very well prepared wid the subject matter to answer tat questions rite....so its in one way a scoring subject..


in info tech...first prepare these four chapters properly

Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Accounting Software Pakcages(it has 20 marks of weightage)

then do all the short notes(20 marks of weightage)

do all the differences(20 marks of weightage)

do the first few chapters i.e. the hardware wala(20 marks for this question)

do all the definitions and number systems sums(its very very easy) and the uses and true of false(20 marks for this)

lastly do the chapter cyber laws, internet, networkin(20 marks for this)

Dear Ritika,

Youn do have a problem and your family members also have a problem. You would think I am joking. But let us think about it. Getting a rank in an exam is good. But that is not all in life. Life is about being a good human being. There are so many people who have not obtianed ranks in exams still lived their life in happiness. You can can not and your family members can not compare your performance with that of your brother's. You two are different from each other. In that way no two individuals in the world can be compared, because the circumstnaces under which they have been brought up, lived are different. That is why you can  not compare a Sachin Tendulkar with Sunil Gavaskar or Vivian Richards. All of them are good players own their own merit.
Now, as to what you should do , your parents and brothers will not change. Because they will change only if they decide to change. You can not change them. They will keep on comparing you with others. But YOU CAN CHANGE. IF  YOU DECIDE. So, try to understnad that the key is to accept that your self worth does not depend on passing or failing in the exams. Your self worth depends on what you think about yourself. Not on what others say about you. We are all human beings. We can not be perfect. Because anything can be improved and made better. So, what is the meaing of perfectionism. Pentium I was upgraded to Pentium II and so forth. So, do not think about a perfect solution. Think about a practical soultion. What is possible under the existing circumstances. Then enjoy the process of learning. Relieve yourself from the stress of perfomance. When you do like this  it will bring out the optimum result from you. So, this is the key. You can not look for perfect solutions, try to optimise. And that is what anybody can do. This might even produce a rank for you.You may be intelligent, hard working , committed etc. But if you do not know how to handle stress in life , all other knowledge will not help you. So, first step is to relieve yourself from the stress. Think of the good things you have done in your life and be happy about it. Write down the  strong points you have and be happy about it.

I hope this will help you. I am a Chartered Accoutant . I did not make it to the rank list. But I  still enjoy my learning. I still enjoy what I do in the work. That has kept me happy so far. But there was a time when I my self compared with others nd created a hell for myself. Then I changed my thoughts and realised that thoughts can make you and thoughts can breake you.
