I have received a debit note on transportation charges for some materials other than input materials which were installed at site. I havent received the LR copy of the same along with the debit note. It might be possible that party might have paid the Service tax on the same. Even if i have to pay the GTA it is going to be a cost for me as I will not be liable to avail the credit for the same. but my question is as it was an inward transportation cost for me, should I be paying the service tax on this?

You are the consignee in this case, as such, check in the consignment note who is liable to pay the tax.
And if no Consignment Note is received, then it will not be treated as a GTA service, hence, no reverse charge mechanism would be attracted in that case.
