payment of S.Tax by Cheque

Dear friends,

can anybody tell me the name of the authority which should be quoted on the Cheque when an assessee wants to pay the service tax by cheque.Is there any problem to Bankers accepting the service tax challan. Pls answer soon.

date for serv tax payment for co. is 5th of the next month of the serv. realised & for other than co is qtrly say for oct to dec07 payable with in 5th of jan 08 & the cheque is to be drawn on bank's name a/c service tax like IDBI BANK A/C SERVICE TAX

Mr Dipak Agrawal Your answer seems to me not satisfactory.Assessee has to pay service tax to govt. or to bank.

banks are authorised by the govt. authorities to take the service tax & other tds

It is mentioned on the front of GAR-7 that the same is effective from 01/04/2007. For example, if you are issuing cheque of AXIS Bank and depositing your Cheque with Bank of Baroda, you shall memtion, "Bank of Baroa A/C Chief Account Officer Central Exciser (of your juridictional Commissionrate) " alongwith GAR-7.

dear ramesh, if we are payable of service tax by cheque, cheque issued in favour of bank a/c of service tax issued to any nationalised bank at your place. ex: STATE BANK OF INDIA A/C OF SERVICE TAX cheque issued to bank, after the clear of cheque bankers give the challan to me.
