dear frnd,
duty recoverable from a person, who was no more, was recoverable from his legal representative to the extent of property of deceased coming to the hands of the legal representative.
I agree with the reply of Mr.Harshit

All legal heirs of a person are liable to pay jointly and severally basis to the extent of property they receive. Example if service tax is payable 6 lakhs and there are 3 legal heirs each receiving 3 lakhs, the department will recover 6 lakhs from all jointly and severally to extent of 3 lakhs from each and refund the excess over 6 lakhs. In such cases it is better all the legal heirs get together and discharge the actual liability amicably. As you seem to be the only legal heir, you will have to discharge to the extent of value of property received by you. If interest mounts and the value of your property covers it, you have to pay.
