I used the ITR2 java utility and generated X M L out of it and uploaded the X M L and then paid the self assessment tax. Today I got this sms which says:
Pay self assessment tax before filing IT return to avoid return to be treated as defective.
So do we ideally have to pay self assessment tax before uploading the X M L? What should be done in my case? I have not yet sent the ITR-V by post.
When system calculates tax for you. You should pay on line get the challan no, Bsr code , date and amt. Fill in Adv tax/self assesment tax sheet. In fact pay about 150-175 more so that you get refund. Less than 100 you will not get refund. Then generate XML and uplaod the return under 139[5]. Do it now.
No issues, you can again file your return.......otherwis it will be treated as defective return
Thanks for the comments. So does the next X M L I upload should be a revised one? If I select revised it says enter receipt number, is the receipt number the same as acknowledgement number mentioned in the ITR-V of previous upload?
Yes fill the acknowledgement number. Plz note that you are filing under 139[5]
