Nri return

Hi,

Can some one please explain whether the below details need to be disclosed in case of Non resident return (ITR 2)-

  • Details of NRE account- will this account be considered Indian account or foreign account?
  • Details of salary abroad?- Form ITR 2 says to fill the details of any foreign account, foreign income, etc in case of resident only and to fill schedule FA (details of foreign income, accounts ) etc.
  • Details of foreign bank accounts/abroad assets?
  • Also should schedule FSI (income from outside India and Tax relief) needs to be filled in case of NRI return? I understand this should be filled only in case of resident whose global income is to be taxed in India and not NRI.

I understand that a NRI return should include only the details of the income in India and not the foreign income, is this correct interpretation?

Thanks,

Tejas Shah

  2. In case person is an NR/RNOR, foreign income and assets need not be disclosed in tax return.
