New Service Tax Registration

Queries 806 views 3 replies

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am running my own proprietorship firm. I have registered my business and obtained trade licence in November 2009. I haven't maintained any BOA under rule 6F yet. After researching on internet I came to know that my services (i.e. Graphics and Web designing) are are taxable services. I have't charged any service tax to any service receivers yet. my turnover didn't exceed 9L in the previous year nor  my income exceeded 1.6L. I haven't  applied for service tax registration certificate yet. Now kindly provide me with necessary guidance what are the initiatives I need to be taken at this stage.

No Need to charge Service tax. After crossing turnover 9L. Apply for registration in ST-1 and you will get certificate from Superintendent of excise in ST-2. Till than keep filing your it-return every year,

Thanks Pankaj, but I have been told that, a person is liable for service tax registration within 30 days of commencement of business / ISD/ turnover exceeds 9L. Therefore a confusion arises, could you please clarify the confusion lies therein.

He told after 30 days means when your turnover cross to 9L than You have to register within 30 days.
