Quick Summary
The National Pension Scheme (NPS) is accessible to both salaried and self-employed individuals, with deductions claimable under sections 80CCD(1) and 80CCD(1B). While no fixed interest rate applies, contributions are invested in assets like equity, with historical returns averaging 8-10% annually. Upon maturity, 60% of the corpus can be withdrawn, while the remaining 40% must be used to purchase an annuity for a monthly pension.

Deduction can be claimed even by self-employed subscribers u/s 80CCD(1) and 80CCD(1B).
