minor mistake in dd

Hii

I have drawn a dd in favor of government dept for grant of new water connection. While filing the application form we wrote "the assistant engineer, PHE-3 (N), PWD" instead of assistant engineer, PHE-III (N), PWD. Only difference is "3 and III.

The department asked me to get it corrected from the bank.

Is there any way other than cancel the dd and draw a new one?? Can I declare that the name may be read as III on the back of the dd or something?.
