not an expert to give answer just lay down this for you

merger means  one company acquiring the control of another company in total

DEMERGER means hiving off /Spin Off  of a business for example if a company has two division  namely power generation and  Electrical Works Contract it hives off one of its division  to another company

Merger means two or three companies combine to form new company, meeger may take two forms, merger thru absorption and merger thru consolidation  whereas demergers is seperation of one large company into two or three more companies
