Medical reimbursement

Tax queries 284 views 6 replies

Hi sir,

Employer paying Rs.15000 per annum as medical expenses reimbursement. He is paying monthly Rs.1250/- in pay slip. My doubt is can employee claim this medical reimbursement as deduction. If yes, under which section.

Note: Employee not incurred any medical expenses during the year and not produced any bills to  his employer.

Please clear my doubt...

Thank you sir.

Deduction for medical reimbursements can be claimed only if expense has actually been incurred and bills for the same are available.

it's reimbursement, it's allowance. so it's fully taxable
it's not reimbursement, it's allowance, so it's fully taxable

Dear Rama Krishnan,

Maximum companies provide amount for medical reimbursements on monthly basis as a fixed amount generally Rs.1250 p.m. for which they seek medical bills and related documents before a specified period generally close to the end of financial year. Deduction for the same is allowed on satisfactory production of bills by the employee.

attn @ Jaspreet if the employee failed to produce the medical bills then whether the employer recover the amount paid towards medical reimbursements. if your answer is affirmative I endorse your view
thanks for your valuable suggestions
