Mat credit computation

Tax queries 7296 views 1 replies

KINDLY SOLVE MY QUERY.

MY MAT CREDIT IS RS 300000/-(B/F BALANCE)

CURRENT YEAR INCOME IS 150000/- AND TDS DEDUCTED IS 30000/-

NOW CURRENT TAX               =  46350/-

TAX ON BOOK PROFIT(MAT) = 28582/-

NOW HOW MUCH SHOULD BE THE MAT CREDIT AVAILED AND THE TAX TREATMENT.

THE CALCULATION AS PER ME IS-

TAX ON REGULAR INCOME = 46350/-

TAX ON BOOK PROFIT(MAT)= 28582/-

HENCE TAX LIABILITY = 46350/-

LESS: MAT CREDIT       = 46350/- ( this credit is taken from the old balance of 300000/- MAT credit)

SO NET TAX LIABILITY = NIL

MAT CREDIT LEFT=300000-46350= 253650/-

AND REFUND OF TDS=30000/-

IS THIS CALCULATION CORRECT?

KINDLY ADVISE.

THANX

Let us understand first  what is "Minimum Alternate Tax "

Minimum + Alternate Tax

Minimum connotes that the assessee has to pay minimum tax, and alternate means it is alternate to the normal tax.

That means assessee has to pay lower of MAT or tax under normal provision...

In your case, you will have to pay atleast Rs, 28,582 .....and you can tax maximum tax credit to the extent of difference between tax paid under normal provision and MAT i.e. 46350-28582 = Rs. 17768

Further MAT Credit to be carried forward will be 300000-17768 = Rs. 282232

and tax refund will be Rs. 30000-28582 = 1418
