PTRC return errors on the MahaGST portal are very common, especially when the Excel IIIB template version is not the latest one or when the text file generated from the template has formatting issues.
Step-by-step to resolve:
1. DOWNLOAD FRESH TEMPLATE: Go to mahagst.gov.in, navigate to Downloads, and download the PTRC Return template (Form IIIB). Do not reuse an old template from a previous return.
2. CHECK COLUMN HEADERS: The template has been updated multiple times. If you get an upload error, it often means the column headers in your file do not match the current version. Open both the old and new template and compare.
3. GENERATE TEXT FILE CORRECTLY: The template auto-generates a text file when you click the Generate button. Ensure macros are enabled in Excel before clicking Generate. If macros are disabled, the text file will either not generate or generate incorrectly.
4. CHECK EMPLOYEE COUNT: Some errors occur when the total of employees in each slab does not match the total employee count at the top of the form. Verify both match.
5. VERIFY THE PTRC PERIOD: Confirm you are filing for the correct period. Annual filers file once a year; monthly filers file each month. Mismatch in period selection causes errors.
If the portal error persists after these steps, raise a grievance on the MahaGST portal under Helpdesk or call the Maharashtra PT helpline.
