LTCG-LOSS ON SALE OF EQUITY SHARES

GOOD DAY,

I have doubt in calculating LTCG of shares bought b4 2018.

Some equity shares that were bought before 2015 were sold during fy24-25. some of the shares incurred loss

cost price or cost of acquisition is unknown . unable to retriev from Dp. only FMV as on 31st jan 2018 is available.

in this scenario, how to calculate the profit or loss on sale.  do i need to consider only FMV and deduct from sale price??

While entereing the transsactions in ITR2, if FMV is more than sale price, its not displaying the actual loss amount. rather the loss is deducted upto the selling price .

only profit on sale of equity is fully displayed . Since the loss are not setting off against the profit, it leads to more CAPITAL GAIN and tax thereon

pls guide as how to show the loss incurred.

Thanks

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses the challenge of calculating Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) loss on equity shares purchased before 2018 when the original cost of acquisition is unknown. The user has only the Fair Market Value (FMV) as of January 31, 2018, and is seeking guidance on how to accurately report losses in ITR2, as the current utility seems to cap loss reporting at the selling price, impacting tax calculations.

Loss based on grandfathered gain is not eligible. So, the utility is correct.

ok tq for the response sir

You are welcome.
