Long term and short term - gains from equity investing

Others 250 views 1 replies

Hi,

I had a query for filing returns for gains from equity investing for my dad. Considering he has no other income, would need help on the below queries -

1) Does short term capital gain and long term capital gain have different taxation bracket ? If yes, at what rate are they taxed at ?

2) While filing return, will he be required to upload the details of each trade for the year in some excel file or just need to disclose a net figure is enough ?

3) If the rate of short term and long term capital gain are the same, can they be clubbed and losses/profit be offset ?

Thanks,
Ashu

1. Assuming traded over exchange.... STCG taxed at 15% while LTCG nil (till march 2018)

2. Net figures (better if as per broker's statement)

3. Not possible as per specified rates
