LIC premium

Can an assessee deposit LIC premium of a non dependent child?

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether an assessee can claim a deduction under Section 80C for LIC premiums paid on behalf of a child, regardless of their dependency. While one opinion suggests premiums for a non-dependent child are not eligible, the consensus among other participants is that dependency is not a requirement for claiming the deduction. Therefore, parents can claim the 80C deduction for LIC premiums paid for their children, whether dependent or independent.

May deposit but it will not be eligible for deduction u/s 80C as child is not dependent
Child need not be dependant for claiming deduction u/s 80 C for LIC premium.

in my opinion, you can claim it
Deduction available

In our opinion, deduction is available even if he is independent

Irrespective of dependent or not parent can claim of LIC Premium paid.

You can claim deduction u/s 80C irrespective of the fact that child is dependent or not.
