Quick Summary
A legal heir can file an income tax return for a deceased person not just in the year of death, but also until all assets are distributed. This is particularly important if the deceased had any outstanding demands or notices, or if their income for the year exceeded the basic exemption limit. The legal heir is responsible for settling any applicable payments and ensuring all tax obligations are met.

Yes if deceased person has any demand or any notice made then the legal heir have to made the payment if applicable otherwise if the person deceased during the year and if there is any income during the year of the deceased person exceeding the basic exemption limit then the legal heir have to file ITR for the income for that year
Depending upon circumstances, legal heirs have to file return till all assets are distributed amongst beneficiaries.
