also... i want to know if its common for students in other places to submit form 108 late or is it something not very common. would this make a bad mark in institute records.

i would be happy if someone who has experienced the same kindly reply with the formalities and institute's reponse.

You have to submit the condonation letter duly signed by your principle or written by himself, otherwise they will revert back u a letter named "PENDENCIES". {SAME THING HAPPENED WITH ME}

  DD should be in favour of THe SECRETARY, THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF INDIA" PAYABLE AT {regional office place like DELHI,KANPUR etc.} and it will take around 25 to 30 days for the response from ICAI side.

This a common mistake that students do, so in my opinion there is no problem like of bad mark or anything.

No doubt it is advisable to submit the condonation request through aa separate letter to avoid any problem. As it is very easy for officials to hold your form in the absense for this letter. So submit the condonation letter accordingly. I'll try and find a format for you.
