Receiving a late fees notice for GSTR1 late filing for FY 2019-20 can be stressful. Let's explore possible options: 1. Check for waiver: The Government has provided waivers for late fees in the past, typically through notifications or circulars. Check the official GST website or consult with a tax professional to see if any waiver is available for your specific situation. 2. File GSTR1: If you haven't already, file GSTR1 for FY 2019-20 as soon as possible to avoid further late fees. 3. Pay late fees: If no waiver is available, pay the late fees to avoid additional penalties. 4. Respond to the notice: Reply to the notice explaining the reason for the delay (if valid) and request a waiver or reduction in late fees. 5. Consult a tax professional: Seek guidance from a qualified tax consultant to ensure you're taking the correct steps and exploring all possible options. Remember, it's essential to address the notice and resolve the issue to avoid further complications. Some additional information that might be helpful: - The CGST Act provides for a waiver of late fees in certain circumstances, such as natural calamities or technical issues. - The GST Council has also provided relief in the form of reduced late fees or waivers in the past. - It's crucial to keep in mind that the GST authorities may consider waivers on a case-by-case basis, so it's essential to present a valid reason for the delay. Please consult a tax professional for personalized advice on your specific situation.

Late fees for GSTR-1 under Section 47 are Rs 50 per day (Rs 25 each for CGST and SGST) for normal returns, capped at Rs 10,000. For nil returns the fee is Rs 20 per day capped at Rs 5,000. To pay, go to the GST portal, open Returns, then Payments, and you will see the outstanding amount in the Electronic Liability Register. Settle it from your cash ledger and keep the payment reference. If you had already filed on time and still received the notice, reply with your GSTR-1 ARN as proof and request revocation.
