Depending upon the maintenance of books of accounts and software, as per accounting treatment its same, now days all entry even relate to the expenses are recorded under Purchase in tally, in SAP as usual goods in or sirvice in

It is not similar but cant apply all the same rules of vat with gst for Passing journal entry.
Fundamental of Accounts cannot be changed , so its only Head /Name of Account can be change but not Passing of accounting entries
