ITR3 error - In,Schedule BFLA Sl no 2(xii) is not equal to sl no 10(xii) of CFL

Hello all

I have carry forward loss from last year of 60000Rs. (Short term loss)

This year i have capital gain as follows.

7000Rs STCG (debt) and 20000 LTCG. (equity)

So total 27000Rs automatically gets set off from STCG and remaining loss of 33000Rs gets carry forward under short term capital loss.

But at the end when uploading the return, during validation step it throws this error:

In,Schedule BFLA Sl no 2(xii) is not equal to sl no 10(xii) of CFL

Funny thing is that there is no relation between 2(xii) BFLA and 10(xii) of CFL and yet it throws the error.

And even if there was relation, both are ZERO i.e. both are equal and yet it throws error that both are not equal.

This definitely looks like a bug in their software.

How do I get around this?

I just tried a different thing.

In carry forward loss . Instead of putting STCL as 60000Rs. I put 40000Rs STCL and 20000Rs as LTCL.

STCG gets set off against STCL (40000 minus 7000 = 33000 Carried forward)
LTCG gets set off against LTCL (20000 minus 20000 = 0)

So effectively total loss will be 60000Rs and adjustment will also remain same. And set off also remains same.

And then return gets passed without error.

So clearly some bug in their software.

But then if I submit the return and their system detects that last year there was no LTCL of 20000, they might send me notice.

How to avoid this?

Kindly ask ur query precisely

Amish we have had the identical problem for the last 2 days and grievance to IT has not helped  till now. If you have twitter best to raise a tweet to the outstanding CEO of Infosys whose team has made the life of all CAs so eventful. You have found an innovative solution but as rightly pointed out by you it is not correct and best avoided.

Here is how I solved it.

First give wrong figures in CFL.. i.e.in my case instead of putting STCL as 60000Rs. I put 40000Rs STCL and 20000Rs as LTCL.

Then click "Compute Set off" in CFL. Then go to BFLA and click "Compute set off" there too.

Now go back to CFL and put correct value. i.e. STCL as 60000 and LTCL as 0.

Then click "Compute set off" in CFL.

But this time DO NOT click "Compute set off" of BFLA,

Now go ahead and submit the return.

It should accept it.

This bug exists since last August. (almost 3 months)

Someone had already pointed it on twitter. yet no one bothered to correct it.

See August 27 tweet of @ CAAditiBhardwaj

PS: not able to post the link to tweet.

Amish You are a genius. It worked. Thanks

Hi All,

This stupid error was clearly caused by a mismatch between the JSON Schema used by the server's validation code and the tax preparation utility (both offline and online utilities use same schema). I had this same BFLA/CFL mismatch error problem till 19-Dec-2021 in both the Online and Offline utilities and had filed a grievance for it on 19-Dec-2021. The grievance entry itself has not yet been responded by IT dept., but the issue has been resolved as on 21-Dec-2021. I was able to successfully upload and verify my ITR-3 Return on 21-Dec-2021, with the same JSON that was being rejected with this error until 20-Dec-2021... So, suggest that those who were stuck due to this issue simply try to re-upload your JSONs now without doing any workaround rigmarole...  All the best !!

Further update... The IT Dept responded to my Grievance on this mismatch error on 23-Dec-2021 saying that the problem has been resolved and I should try to upload my JSON again...  But as noted in my earlier response, the issue had been resolvedd on 21-Dec-2021 itself and I had already successfully uploaded and verified my ITR-3 on that day... but the efficient IT Dept took 2 more days to tell me that the issue is fixed.!!  Maybe they are so flooded with grievances that they need time to respond even when they manage to fix an issue quickly...!!

Thanks Krishnamurthy.
