Hi,

I wan to file ITR for my wife, she is working as home tutor and earning around 1.5 L. She is also earning 25K as interest income from fixed deposit. The reason to file the ITR is that TDS has been deducted on interest income and we want to submit a refund for the same. I want to know the ITR type which needs to be filled.

Below 2,50,000 income people are exempted from filing of I.T.Returns. But as far as TDS is concern, you have to submit the Form 16/ 16A is the certificate of deduction of tax at source and issued on deduction of tax by the employer on behalf of the employees. These certificates provide details of TDS / TCS for various transactions between deductor and deductee. It is mandatory to issue these certificates to Tax Payers.

You can file ITR-1 for both home tutor earning and FD Interest income and claim Refund.

You can file ITR-1 for both home tutor earning and FD Interest income and claim Refund.

You can file ITR 1 for both the Tution Income and  Interest Income under the head "Income from Other Sources"

However if the tution income is to be treated as business, then file ITR-3.

File ITR1
Tuition income may be shown under income from other sources
Interest income also under income from other sources. Note that Interest income and TDS both should match with 26AS statement.

Can I file ITR4 with Business/Profession under section 44AD,17006-Coaching Centers and tuition?
