can i file itr of a client of ay 2016-17 after 31-03-2017 without any penalty clause.

i think no..since budget 2016 has amended section 139 and therby decreasing the time limit of filing itr till the end of assessment year only

however you may file itr for AY 16-17 after 31-3-17, provided your total income does not exceed the Rs 250000/-, otherwise you may attract panelty

AY 2016-7 can be filed up to 31-03-2018. No penalty or interest if it is a Nil return or refund case.
