I filed ITR1 for AY-2018-19 with no refund. I got a tax demand of 10000 under sec 245 for section code 1431a from cpc. Till last year i got intimation u/s 143(1) no demand or refund is pending.

I received no mail indicating reasons for demand . the site shows that there is no mismatch of TDS.

MY question is how do i know what is the reason for the demand and what action i should take.

Can you post the mail over here.
It can be from fake income tax account also.
Check the sender's email id.

probir Kumar Saha ki , kindly visit your income tax portal -worklist-demands and check whether you had any previous demands and if not then file rectification u/s154 with the A.O at your respective income tax ward or circle shown under "profile" on income tax portal

I replied like that because one of my client had the same case.
Later on turned out to be unofficial mail.
Anyways no more comments from my side.
Sorry if you got offended.

And yes file u/s 154 as directed by Mr Jai Bhola.

demand may be due to TDS mismatch. check 143(1) intimation whether credit has been given for tds. if not check your 26AS and file 154 application and upload your 26AS
