Is there anyone who had done or doing articleship in taxation department in any of the big 4

I have interest in both audit as well as taxation. Iam appearing for an interview at EY where vacancies are there only in tax department. How is tax department different from audit and how will be the work and jobs after becoming CA if I go for taxation.

EY has 3 divisions within Taxation (from articleship perspective) namely: Direct, Indirect and Transfer Pricing. On top of that there are teams divided for market/industry specialisation.

Compared to audit, tax interns have a more stable routine as travelling is very rare. However, they work for relatively longer hours on a daily basis.

The learning is top-notch, be it audit, tax or advisory. You will be working with the best professionals in the business. There are frequent trainings, councelling sessions,an online knowledge mine, etc. So you never run short of resources, the learning opportunities are endless in any field. However, I feel one gets a wider exposure in audit/advisory as he/she is client facing, instead of mostly sitting in a cubicle.

Choosing field boils down to your personal preference. Job prospects and salary packages are also similar across all specialisations.

My suggestion would be to crack the interview to keep your options open. Give your best shot and grab the articleship at EY. You can try other Big4's if you're inclined to join Audit.

I am undergoing articleship in risk advisory at the Gurgaon office.
