Is Hard copy of invoice essential

my queries is

our mostly vendor has provided soft copy but they are not provided hard copy ....so one of my team member are asking for hard copy for doing any payment .

is it essential for payment or any other problems will face in future .

please let me know

As per my team if we avail input tax credit with out orignal invoice is there any penalty ..

please let me know and we have all soft copy of invoices .
