If rent paid on commercial property for a pre-gst period in current year, request clarification as to if gst is applicable or not? if applicable how to get credit for the same

if the tax had been paid under earlier law, then GST will not be applicable.
No tax paid. no rent paid earlier due to some legal issues. now rent is being paid for that period.
