Is change required in CA course structure

Dear Friends,

As all of us know Chartered Accountancy is consisdered as toughest course after Civil Services and CAT. I don't think this credit  goes to freshly qualified CA.When a qualified CA tries to entry to this corporate world, he faces competition from students of other course(specially management) and always management professionals are given preference over CA's.

One should not really blame these management professionals or the companies as both are correct at their end. Corporate entities while recruiting consider not only techincal knowledge(what one studies) but also attitude and communication and presentation skills.

So is there a requirement that CA course structure need to revisted and imparted in a way that CA students will not only have subject expertise but also develop a attitude what is required by corporates(leadership attitude, can do attitude) and same time communication and presentaion skills(as the management professionals possess), which will be a great help to CA students.

Thank You

nice think bro.

what you said is essential for CA

One of my friends is doing MBA from DCE and one is doing from FMS,Delhi University and believe it or not the finance trade students are most scared of CAs. According to them,in finance jobs CAs have an edge over them because of indepth knowledge. So my friend, the feeling is mutual, although some changes are required in our courses of study.

There is no requirement of  a change in the CA structure . It is just that the ICAI should increase the number of programmes ( Obligatory one's ) in the CA hierarchy .

For e.g. During the IPCC course the number of days for the orientation course should increase taking into account and discussing more practical aspects related to inter personal skills , communication skills

Thanks

the primary purpose for the introduction of orientation and GMCS is to improve the communication and presentation skills in CA students. however, the duration of these courses is too short to have any material change. there is need to increase the duration of these courses. also the industrial training which is optional in the 3rd year, should be made mandatory. the CA students should be required to undergo atleast one year training in some big corporate enterprises. this will surely inculcate the much needed management and communication skills amongst the CA students. however, when it comes to knowledge CAs have lot more knowledge than their MBA counterparts.

Dear  Harshal and Sachin,

I thank you for your response  and appreciate your thinking.I agree with both of you that programs like GMCS and Orientation sholud be of longer duration inorder to have higher impact and at the same time they should be regular like atleast once in every year of articleship. And these in some way are changes to present CA course structure ??

Very well said friend. This is one basic thing that we CA's lack. I think ICAI should take up this matter and try to have more programs for personality development....

very good thought. For getting success in corporate world the student should have an oveall knowledge and he should be well versed with communication skills.

One thing that I would suggest to all the students, pls opt for Industrial training during the last six months of your articles.

Believe me it makes a lot of difference. Even a month of industrial experience adds a lot of value.

In articles, you only do the audit or the advisory. The real practical issues which arise during the day to day activities of the industries is the actual practical training.. Its at those point when your decision taking ability is tested. So, at that point of time, even if you dont take decisions, you'll atleast see how the corporates take the decisions!!!!!

You will definitely not come across those issues when you do your audit. And these are the areas where questions are asked in the interviews.

Every required change in right direction give fruitful result

With Due respect to others opinion , i dont think there is any change required in ICAI curriculam..introduction of GMCS is an excellent step by ICAI.

Only change required is in CA students due to large number of student opting for CA they themselve are scared...we are far far far ahead of MBA's in Knowledge,

which company wud prefer an MBA ahead of CA when its comes to finance , TAX. MBA's are  selected as an cheap alternative only.( i know how much MBA's are paid only when they are from IIM or FMS only...))

We need to change our atttude and be confident..

I know i am a lot better than MBA even if i haven't cleared Final( till now :P)...be confident..attitude changes everything my friend.

ther is a change in syllabus every day

better to go with it

yes. there is a need for change in ca course structure. there should be four levels of exams. 1st :CPT, 2nd: like pcc/ipcc but only 4 subject (which will be help ful in articleship training) 2.5 years article trainiung, afer training 3rd exam only with those subject which will be helpful for doing industrial training in corporates (including some mba subjects) then 1 year compulsory industril training in corporates then immidiately 4th exam CA Final .  with four levels students burden will be less , because subjects are divided. in third exam  with mba subjects students wil get interest in subjects & study. and here also they get practical knowledge in management before industrial training . in whole ca ctructure there should be a subject of economics.

Industrial training should be made compulsory during the last year of articleship. And orientation programmes can be made compulsory once in every year during articleship. Because the current programmes are so short in duration that make hardly any difference.

articleship period should be reduced to 1 year

or else i should be after ca finals only

odrwise its a sheer time waste

wastin ur life jus to realise ur not a CA

n articleship in firms should be alloted on merit basis as is the case for allotin colleges in AIEEE

no reference thing coz it plays a major role in makin one a GOOD CA
