why we don't reduce investment cost by interest income from it (for ex if a company invests in debentures then why can't it reduce its cost by monthly interest received on them)

i mean is it possible to reduce cost of investment by income received on it(ex rs100 interest has been received on debentures this year then instead of taking it to p&l can we adjust it against debenture value appearing in b/s which is rs1000)
