Inconsistency between form 16 and 26-AS

Hi,

There is a significant difference in the tax credited(TDS) shown in the form-16 given to me by my employer and the 26-AS sent to me by income tax dept. The form-16 claims tax deposited was around 50,000 while 26-AS says, it is around 2000. The form-16 has everything like BSR code of the bank branch, challan number etc. So it seems that the tax has actually been deposited by the deductor but it is not reflected in the annual statement.

I am not sure whom should I contact now. Any help in this regard would be great.

IT department might have sent the 26AS before the final quarter was paid... please check, its usual problem many people are facing

Thanks for replying. Actually this problem is for financial year 2007-08. So I don't think 26AS is not updated. And I have received this 26AS quite recently.

Dheeraj jee,

Our Income Tax department is trying to sort out these issues. they are not able to match old TDS amount personwise till date. as i thought. "aur i think ki yeh hoga bhi nahin."

I suggest you please do not worry if there is some difference in 26AS & Form 16. You will get credit on behalf of form 16. don't worry, it is department's internal problem they have to cope with it. you please keep your form 16 in safe custody if asked by deparment to proof.

This reconciliation is still in starting level. you can say is about to implement fully.

so don't penic.
