Income tax paid through wrong challan

ITR 1611 views 4 replies

I am an individual salaried tax payer. For AY 14-15, and 15-16 I have paid my Self Assessment Tax through wrong Challan (instead of paying through 280, I paid using 282). Also this year i.e., AY 16-17, I have paid my Advance tax using the Challan 282. I file my ITR online.

Yesterday I got an outstanding demand notice from Income tax CPC and then after searching on internet I found that I got this just due to wrong challan being used for my tax payment. If you could please let me know the steps to correct this mistake of mine.

Thanks in advance.

Gopal Kumar

When you were filling 282, at the top, there is no option for Income tax, what did you fill?? For older cases you can contact the AO, for recent you can check this https://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/Documents/challan-correction-mechanism-26082011.htm

Hi,

Actually I paid this SAT against my savings interest. So I selected "Interest TAX" as option in form 282. I know I made a mistake.

I have made this payment online using the e-Pay Tax option. I filed my ITR using e-Filling option.

I have got the demand notice from CPC Bangalore, so as per my understanding AO does not come into picture. I need to request CPC for rectification, but I don't know how.

Please let me know if I can do something online using my e-filling account, or do I need to write to CPC ?

Thanks for your inputs.

you can write one letter and explain to respective AO along with document proof.
