Income tax on house property and hra

Hi All,

I've a house property (with loan) which was self occupied for 9 months in this financial year and the remaining 3 months its vacant as I had to move to another city due to job and stay in a rented property. The interest per anum is around 4 lacs, and the expected rent per month is 18000/-, but actual rent is 0 as the property was vacant for 3 months. Can you kindly answer below queries

1. How do I compute tax in this case?

2. Can I claim for HRA?

Regards,

Pranav

You can get deduction u/s. 24b for Rs. 2 Lakh for interest amount.

As the property is SOP, you can carry forward the loss of Rs. 2 Lakh.

Can I claim HRA for 3 months as I am in rented house?

The tax benefits for home loan and HRA are two separate entities and have no direct bearing on each other. As long as you are paying rent for an accommodation, you can claim tax benefits on the HRA component of your salary, while also availing tax benefits on your home loan.

Thank you!
