Income tax exemption for medical reimbursement

234 views 1 replies

Hello sir,

I am a retired official of a central government autonomous body. My wife is receiving treatment at Tata cancer centre, kolkata for ovarian cancer. Submitted bill to my office for medical reimbursement on expenditure incurred for her in the treatment. It is an expensive treatment as one injections needed for chemotherapy is very costly. Office says the reimbursed amount will be added to my pension amount for calculation of income tax and TDS will be done. My contention is that the expenditure incurred is only getting reimbursed and I am not making any profit/gain in this and hence IT should not be deducted from the reiumbersed amount. Kindly clarify.

Regards,

A.Das
