Income tax demand

Dear Members

Greetings,

My client Paid Self Assessment Tax but with Incorrect PAN on challan. Submission u/s 154 has been done continuously for 4 years now but department is not correcting its database. Have submitted online response too but still they are adjusting refund against the demand. Kindly guide me how to resolve the issue.

Mam,

You need to approach your jurisdictional assessing officer and file an application for change of PAN in the self assessment tax challan. This was the first mistake to be rectified, once you have corrected the challan then file for a rectification u/s 154. Now, as you have mentioned that already 4 years have elapsed IT Department will not entertain such correction in the challan, but still you can give it a try by personally visiting the Jurisdictional assessing officer.
