Are you joint owner of the house?

If yes.......... than answer is yes............... otherwise  NO....

You must be owner or co-owner of the house to claim tax deduction. From your query it appears that your Wife wife is the single owner of the house and you are paying the entire loan amount. So you will not get any benefit. But as you said your Wife do not have any income then by a simple tax planning you can get the benefit in an indirect way. This planning may be controversial but you may take the advantage

The planning is you should transfer fund to your Wife account (obviously you have to do since your Wife has no source of income). In turn your wife will repay the loan out of money provided by you.if the house is a self occupied one, interest for Loan up to Rs. 2lakh will be her income. Thus This is negative income. Since it is your money which was utilised by your Wife this negative income will be clubbed with your income. By taking the advantage of clubbing provisions you can take the benefit of home loan. I would like to hear from other experts on this.
